Terry Sorensen DHSc., RDCS, RDMS, RVT, RT(R) Washburn University Diagnostic Medical Program Clinical Coordinator and Concentration SpecialistHello! My name is Terry Sorensen and I have worked in the profession of diagnostic medical sonography for over 19 years.  This time has flown by so incredibly fast!   I can honestly say I’m honored to be involved in the profession of sonography and am honored to judge this year’s essays for the student scholarship.

To begin my educational journey in health care, I first completed radiology school at Washburn University and then attended St. Luke’s School of Diagnostic Sonography in Kansas City. Since finishing sonography school, I have completed my bachelors of Health Science degree at Washburn University and completed a Master’s degree in Health Science in 2011 from Nova Southeastern University. Lastly, I complete a Doctorate of Health Science degree in March 2019, from the Nova Southeastern University.  Additionally, in order to broaden my knowledge in cardiac sonography, after 3 years of training with local cardiac sonographers, I earned my RDCS in 2019.

Over the past 19 years as a sonographer, I have had the opportunities to work for several hospitals, obgyn offices, maternal fetal medicine departments, and a vascular clinic.  The relationships I have formed throughout my various experiences have been immeasurable.  I have truly met some of my best friends and most brilliant colleagues working in the profession of sonography.

During the last 10 years of my career I developed a passion for teaching and became an adjunct instructor at Washburn University’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program. I continue to work at the University today, as the clinical coordinator and concentration specialist.  I have truly enjoyed helping students on their paths of becoming sonographers.  I truly feel passionate about sharing my experiences with others and hope that the trials and tribulations I have encountered can help influence students.  It is my hope, to foster students, who will help shape the profession of sonography by being confident, competent, compassionate, and well-versed.
