Ultrasound Tech Certification Requirements in Wyoming

Flag of Wyoming
Like most of the country, Wyoming has no specific licensure or certification requirements for ultrasound technicians to practice their trade. However, the typical employer will prefer or even require a professional certification, so it’s wise to consider how you’ll obtain that in order to make yourself competitive in the job market.

Requirements for Ultrasound Technician Certification in Wyoming

The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) is the most well-known and regarded certification organization. They administer tests in sonography and many of its related specialties, and you must pass one of those tests to be awarded their certification.

Unfortunately, there is only one testing center in Wyoming, but you may be able to find one close to you by looking in the surrounding states. Find the locations and their contact information on the ARDMS website at ardms.org, or by calling the testing company Pearson Vue at 1-877-258-9220.

The ARDMS has identified several different prerequisites for taking their test, but you only need to meet one of them. Read through your options on their website to determine which one will be the easiest for you to meet.

    Cheyenne, WY
According to a 2014 economic study provided by cheyenneleads.org, “In recent years, Cheyenne and Laramie County have experienced unprecedented economic growth”. Cheyenne was spared the brunt of the economic slowdown, and has seen faster recovery than much of the rest of the state. Jobs in healthcare are predicted to grown at a strong rate, both in Cheyenne and throughout the rest of Wyoming. Sonography and other allied healthcare fields are popular career choices due to the relatively short educational and training period, combined with job availability and strong salaries.

If you don’t see a sonography program in your area, or there is limited availability, consider pursuing your education in a related field within allied health.
